Sunlight has several short but genuinely super-steep runs that will intimidate all but the really skilled. There's a 2,010-foot vertical drop and there's often plenty of untracked powder. However, the best part of the day on the mountain may well be splashing down into the hot springs complex in Glenwood.
Sunlight's uncomplicated trail system features 67 trails that funnel back to the base lodge and features something for everyone including cruising corduroy, steep and deep and leg-pounding moguls. All of Sunlight's trails eventually end up right back at the base lodge so families will not lose each other. Sunlight's Extreme has one of the steepest trails in Colorado called The Heathen, which plunges more than 50 degrees to Four-Mile Creek below. Sunlight is also home to one of the longest trails: Ute, a cruising beginner slope which winds more than two and a half miles from the summit to the base.
This is the destination that's also ideal for the more casual skier who would like the opportunity to combine downhill skiing with forays around Glenwood Springs' pleasant downtown, or even hopping on a low-cost bus to Aspen for a day of shopping and sightseeing.
Dining Around the Mountain There are huge sun-splashed decks to enjoy breakfast or lunch goodies. If you bring your own lunch, more often than not that's perfectly acceptable.
