Winter Fun
A winter playground, the Aspen ski area actually includes four mountains: Aspen Mountain, Aspen Highlands, Snowmass, and Buttermilk. With four ski mountains, you'll have access to thousands of acres of skiable terrain. You will also experience a wide range of terrain from steep bumps, to gentle slopes, to expert chutes and cliffs, to a daring terrain park—perfect for a family with skiers of different levels and interests.
If you have beginning skiers or snowboards in your family, or if you just want to clean up your technique, all four mountains provide ski lessons of all levels. Equipment rentals are available if you do not own your own skis. There are also demo opportunities to try out the latest models if you are thinking about upgrading your skis.
If you are traveling with children who are too young to ski, do not let that stop you from hitting the slopes yourself. The mountains offer excellent daycare centers that will take care of your little loved ones while you are out skiing.
Summer Fun
Although Aspen is most famous for its winters, the summers also offer a wide range of outdoor and indoor activities for the whole family. There are kids' camps in Aspen and Snowmass for children of different age groups. Registration is required for some programs while others are free of charge and operate on a daily basis.
Outdoor music concerts are held throughout the summer featuring rock, R & B, soul, and Latin music. Concerts are free and are typically held on Thursday evenings. Addition concerts may be held on other nights.
Aspen also offers hundreds of miles of excellent hiking trails of all levels. Challenge the family to an ambitious trek to the top of a peak, or take it easy and follow a mellow nature trail. Mountain biking and horseback riding are also allowed on many of Aspen's winding trails. Aspen also offers unique opportunities such as paintball, rock climbing, rafting and kayaking, frisbee golf, fishing, yoga, and golf and tennis. Whatever your family is into, you'll find it in Aspen.
