Overview

Construction on Clevholm Manor, more widely known as Redstone Castle, began in 1897, at the behest of John Cleveland Osgood, a coal and steel magnate and one of America's wealthiest men at the turn of the twentieth century. The house, built in the Tudor-style with sandstone blocks quarried from the cliffs of Crystal River, and surrounding grounds were built as the centerpiece of the village of Redstone, CO, a quaint settlement developed by Osgood as a "model company town," with Swiss-style cabins built for the workers in his mines.  The house boasts woodwork designed by Gustav Stickley and fixtures by Louis Comfort Tiffany. For these and other noteworthy aspects of the grand home's design and structure, the National Register of Historic Places placed the manor, as well as the Gamekeeper's Cabin, on its prestigious list. In the twenty-first century, Redstone Castle and the alpine village endure as nostalgic novelty attractions for tourists in the greater-Aspen area.
